What is NLP?

NLP is an acronym for Neuro Linguistic Programming. Neuro means to neurology, linguistic refers to language and programming is how neural language functions. What NLP means is learning the language of the mind. NLP is an approach of personal development and communication developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in 1970’s.

Neuro Linguistic Programming is used to gain access to the unconscious mind and it is the unconscious mind which governs our behaviour. What do I mean by that? Well, our reactions to the surroundings and people around us is done unconsciously. We don’t set out our day to act shocked, disgusted or sad. That is done on an unconscious level.

NLP provides us with the tools for us to change our behaviour that is not serving to us in to a more productive and fulfilling life. It opens up our views allowing us to see the bigger picture, and once we access our unconscious mind, it offers us more options. By using language and sensory based interventions and behaviour modification techniques, we can be more productive in our lives. For example, if a phobia impedes into your life, maybe you are afraid to fly which limits a person from achieving their true potential. In NLP, there is a technique that is used to solve the phobias. In fact there are many other techniques that can used from NLP on emotions of anxiety, procrastination, fear, frustration and lots more.
